Lovenness Moyo and Her Impact at Aleso Green Farm Limited

Championing Women in Agriculture: The Remarkable Journey of Lovenness Moyo

In celebration of Women’s Month, we honor Lovenness Moyo, a farm manager who has transformed Aleso Green Farm Limited in Chisamba Kalola, Zambia, from a small family operation into a thriving agricultural enterprise. Her story is a testament to vision, resilience, and the crucial role women play in agriculture.

From Humble Beginnings to Agricultural Prowess

Over a decade ago, Moyo began with just 10 rows of crops and a small team of five. Driven by her passion for farming, she expanded Aleso Green Farm into a 100-hectare powerhouse, producing a variety of crops, including tomatoes, onions, and green peppers. This growth reflects Moyo's strong leadership and determination.

Overcoming Challenges and Driving Growth

The journey wasn’t without challenges—water shortages, pest issues, and power outages tested the farm. Yet, under Moyo’s guidance, the farm not only survived but thrived, with crop production expanding significantly and the workforce growing from five to over 200. Modern equipment now boosts the farm’s productivity.

Innovation at the Core: Tackling Water Scarcity

Water management is critical in agriculture, and Moyo has implemented advanced irrigation systems to ensure high crop yields. Through a key partnership with Amiran Zambia, the farm utilizes Zimmatic center pivot systems, which have been vital in maintaining productivity even during dry seasons.

A Role Model for Resilience and Leadership

Moyo’s leadership challenges the traditional norms in a male-dominated field, proving that women can excel and lead significant change. Her success at Aleso Green Farm highlights the essential role women play in advancing agricultural innovation and sustainability.

Expanding Horizons

Moyo’s vision for the future includes expanding the farm’s irrigation capacity by 100 hectares, which she will implement in stages. Her proactive approach ensures that Aleso Green Farm remains at the forefront of agricultural practices.

Celebrating a Trailblazer

As we celebrate Women’s Month, Lovenness Moyo stands out as a trailblazer whose contributions to agriculture are extraordinary. Her legacy is not just the farm’s success but the inspiration and opportunities she creates for future generations of women in agriculture.
