Colorado Operation Adds FieldNET Technology to Its Pivots - Even Those on Lease Land
29 mars 2019
From satellite imagery to precision irrigation management, technology plays an important role on Silver Reef Organic Farms– a 2,000-acre operation in Wellington, Colorado.
“For us, it’s all about data and analysis,” said Amanda McGee. “We’re always trying to become more efficient and sustainable.”
FieldNET® is one of the smart tools utilized on the Silver Reef operation. The industry’s leading remote irrigation management solution, FieldNET gives the irrigation manager the ability to monitor and control 18 of the operation’s pivots from almost anywhere.
“We have fully integrated FieldNET into our operation through the use of the apps on our phones and tablets as well as dedicated office-based computer,” McGee said. “Our irrigation manager is able to monitor pivots through the day and make changes easily and efficiently without having to drive to each pivot. The alerts and safety features of the technology allows us to address issues before they escalate to potentially costly repairs.”
Because it’s compatible with almost any brand of electric pivot, McGee said they’ve been able to add the FieldNET to existing pivots on their leased land.
“Since we purchased the big farm in 2013, we’ve been adding about 300 acres a year,” she said. “It’s a real benefit to be able to add FieldNET to existing pivots – including competitor machines. The technology works the same on all of them – you don’t notice any differences.”
She said the team also likes the fact that the technology is portable.
“With Pivot Control, we can move the technology from one pivot to another, as needed,” she said. “As we expand and acquire more land, we know that we can easily add FieldNET to pivots that may already be on the property.”
