Efficient Irrigation is Critical to the Future of Farming
Jul 2, 2020
July is Smart Irrigation Month, and Lindsay is joining the Irrigation Association, our partners and others to raise awareness about the important role precision irrigation plays as growers work to produce more with less.
“Precision irrigation technology is key to helping farmers meet growing global food, fuel and fiber challenges,” said Randy Wood, President of the Irrigation Division at Lindsay and member of the Irrigation Association Board of Directors. “We are proud to support the Irrigation Association’s mission to educate the public about the benefits associated with smart and efficient irrigation.”
Now in its 16th year, the theme of 2020 Smart Irrigation Month celebrates the people behind smart irrigation - from engineers who innovate new technologies to sustainability-minded growers who are dedicated to being good stewards of the environment.
“Ensuring sustainability is a team effort,” Wood said. “At Lindsay, one of our core values is collaboration - we believe that we can create more together than as individuals. So, we’re working with industry partners, our Zimmatic dealers and customers to innovate and deliver irrigation solutions that will help growers around the world make the most of every drop of water they use.”
Take, for example, Nebraska grower Kendall David. He added FieldNET Advisor® irrigation scheduling technology to his center pivot irrigation system. The technology delivers the information he needs to decide precisely when, where and how much to irrigate.
“Being a fourth generation farmer makes me very concerned about the sustainability of irrigated operations,” he said. “Becoming more efficient - using less water to produce the same amount of crops - is essential for maintaining the stability of the local water supply for generations to come.”
Throughout the month, we will be introducing you to people, like David, who are driving smart irrigation practices. Check out our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter to learn what they’re doing to ensure efficient and effective water use.
